Itinerary

09:00 | Departure for panoramic tour of Alto Piemonte.

Suggested itinerary provided by Landmade based on the period/day chosen, to be carried out with own car.

The territory of Alto Piemonte has a rolling landscape historically suited to viticulture and a wealth of soils from which spring wines of great value. It extends from the Alps to Lake Maggiore and is dominated by the Monte Rosa massif, the second highest peak in Europe (4.600 m). This diverse territory creates an ideal microclimate for the aromatic intensity and cultivation of the prince of vines: Nebbiolo. In very few other places in the world, in such a small space, will you find such a concentration of so many geological, pedological and climatic conditions: from the plains to the highest peaks, from volcanic crystals to glacial remains, from the mild climate of the lake to the snow covered mountain tops. Here, small producers have been able to preserve and enhance a strong heritage from which wines of great quality and finesse are produced.

10:30 | Visit to a selected Alto Piemonte winery with tasting.

◊ In Alto Piemonte there are three main areas, the Ossola Valleys, the Novarese Hills and the Sesia Coasts, each  representing its own DOC. In the Novarese Hills, elevated above the Sesia river, there are also other jewels of the piedmontese viticulture such as Boca DOCFara DOCGhemme DOCG and Sizzano DOC. The same goes for the right bank of the Sesia, where Bramaterra DOCGattinara DOCG and Lessona DOC are distinguished.

12:30 | Lunch at selected restaurant (set tasting menu or 3 courses à la carte, drinks excluded).

Continuation of panoramic tour of Alto Piemonte.

16:00 | Visit to a selected Alto Piemonte winery with tasting.

The Ghemme is a red wine made primarily from Nebbiolo but here it may also be blended with Uva Rara and Vespolina. Aged for minimum of 3 years total aging is required, or 4 years for the Riserva. Aged for a minimum 20 months in wood and 9 months in bottle, it received its DOCG classification in 1997. While Gattinara, made from a minimum of 90% Nebbiolo and blended with either Vespolina or Bonarda di Gattinara, received its DOCG classification in 1967.  it is said that these wines from the Alto Piemonte can rival Barolo and Barbaresco and have at times in history been more admired than those for their longevity.
